Performance Metrics Dashboard
Our client was a major trade association with operations in over three dozen countries. Some parts of the organization had clear goals related to revenue and profit, supported by a regular process to monitor budgets and take corrective action when needed. Other parts of the organization had goals that were less well-defined, or that were difficult to measure and monitor. Paste Group conducted extensive interviews with other trade associations to identify best practices for defining and measuring these elusive goals, and developed an approach to quantifying concepts that had been abstract so that they could be measured. We worked with the senior executive team to develop goals that were linked to the overall strategy. We developed a system of linked dashboards that tracked performance metrics at every level of the organization, and a process so that those metrics could be reported to the CEO and the Board of Directors regularly. The dashboards and metrics showed the clear alignment between each business unit’s work and the goals of the overall organization.
The Chief Information Officer of a Law Enforcement Agency turned to Paste Group to develop their Strategic Plan for 2012-2015. Significant components of the Strategic Plan included an analysis of requirements, alignment with mission objectives, and the definition of technical, mission, economic, political, and social factors that had an impact on the operational domains. We also assessed risks, impacts, and their consequences on enterprise business functions, processes, and resources. We built a set of operational metrics to establish the performance, effectiveness, reliability, accuracy, worth, cost of each initiative in the plan.
The Chief Information Officer of a Law Enforcement Agency turned to Paste Group to mature his IT portfolio management process and provide a stronger analytical foundation for decision-making. The current IT portfolio was costly and complex – annual spending was $600M per year and there were over 180 different systems spread across four different mission areas. Decision making for these IT assets was largely ad-hoc and uncoordinated. Through our analysis, we identified a number of issues, including: overlaped investments, over-emphasis on a given business sector, old and under-utilized systems that should have been shut down, amd overly simplistic tools that resulted in poor tradeoffs of value to cost. We revamped the process and by first assembling a detailed portfolio database and then we systematically analyzed the client's data. We analyzed percentage risk and percentage valuation values to develop a new view of the Investment landscape to identify different areas of investments. We also developed a linear program to analyze different options for a given funding level, while maximizing the mission value.
The Chief Information Officer of a Law Enforcement Agency engaged Paste Group to provide a solid technical foundation for improving OCIO Enterprise Program Acquisition Management capabilities. The client used two disparate software systems which were inefficient and labor intensive. We provided development services for a combined one-stop application, including requirements, documentation, testing, training, deployment, and releases to the various client environments. The team analyzed existing (paper) documentation, designed user forms, reports and dashboards, as well as system navigation/look and feel.
